Teaching
The Programme is based in the Discipline of Microbiology and Immunology, within the School of Biomedical, Biomolecular and Chemical Sciences. The Discipline is located at the QEII Medical Centre adjacent to the PathWest diagnostic laboratories and the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. It has a distinguished research record in immunology, virology, medical microbiology & bacterial pathogenesis and for the research training of BSc Honours and PhD students. Professor Geoff Shellam has been appointed as the Course Director for the Infectious Diseases Postgraduate Programme. He has a strong academic and research background within this field. Professor Barry Marshall is also a valued member of the teaching staff within the Infectious Diseases Postgraduate Programme. Together, Professor Geoff Shellam and Professor Barry Marshall, as Co-Directors of the newly established Marshall Centre for Infectious Diseases Research and Training, will bring a host of resources to the Programme. This close affiliation with The Marshall Centre will give students access to state of the art facilities and the Nobel Laureate himself. The Programme also consists of a number of Specialists within the Infectious Diseases field.
